Morzine – a mecca for mountain biking in France
With a great choice of graded trails, Morzine is ideal for a mountain biking holiday. Our resort team will be happy to show you the hotspots, point out the best places to have lunch or enjoy the nightlife, organise lift passes and can even book a top Morzine mountain bike guide for you. Like the winter pistes, the MTB trails are graded green to black (easy to extremely difficult), so even the most timid beginner on two wheels can experience the magnificent alpine scenery. And because Morzine is so central, it is a downhill ride from almost anywhere in the Portes du Soleil! A bit of history now! Morzine – at the heart of the Portes du Soleil mountain biking area’s massive 600 km of waymarked MTB trails – was one of the first resorts to use ski trails for summer mountain biking, opening the iconic Morzine Pleney DH trail in 1996. The Morzine-Les Gets sector alone offers 112 km of graded MTB trails ranging from gentle, tree-lined descents to the challenging Loex Plateau Circuit and the short but steep Canyon Free Ride. The Tutti Frutti blue trail’s video zone is great for checking out for free how well you’re riding. For jumps and tricks, there’s a pump track in the centre of Les Gets, or more expert riders can test themselves in the jump park at Les Nauchets. And this is just the local Morzine Les Get area, which barely scratches the surface of the whole MTB area!
Mountain biking in Morzine & the Portes du Soleil
The Portes du Soleil offers something for all mountain bike levels, young and old. You’ll find gentle circuits for the perfect summer day exploring forest trails, right the way up to bike parks for throwing tricks and testing your control and skills. The full 80km Portes du Soleil circuit ranges from 2250m – 1000m, there’s a terrific variety of trails through the Lindarets forests, and Avoriaz offers cross country trails for beginners. If you love mountain biking, you have to try it in Morzine.

Mountain biking events in Morzine
The summer MTB mountain biking season in Morzine kicks off in June with the popular Passportes du Soleil, open to professionals and non-professionals alike. Over a weekend, riders cover a set route around all 12 resorts, but you can choose to take part in only one or two sections. The Portes du Soleil also hosts several major mountain biking events each summer for the world’s best riders. These include the Mountain Bike World Cup, the French and Swiss National Championships and the Chatel Slopestyle competition.
