Activities for young children
We can’t emphasise enough just how much there is to do for families with younger children and infants in Morzine during the summer! The array of activities is huge - many of which are free with the ‘Multi Pass’.
For example there’s a magnificent outdoor / indoor pool complex complete with children’s pools, flume, bouncy castle, restaurant and grassy play areas. Neighbouring Avoriaz houses ‘Aquariaz’, a Centre-Parcs style fun pool with a tropical theme. Lake Montriond and Les Gets Lake have a safe beach/swimming area, with canoes & paddleboards for hire at Montriond and there's a flume at Les Gets.
Two separate 'high rope' adventure parks have courses specifically designed for younger children aged 3 upwards. There is an impressive indoor skating rink for ice-skating and watching ice-hockey matches, mountain donkey rambles that follow an old mountain smuggler's trail, mini golf, trampolining, tennis, horse and cart rides, pony rides, farm parks & visits, nature trails, merry go round and a summer toboggan/luge (younger children can ride with their parents) - to name but a few! Children aged approximately 6-8 upwards can go horse riding and even try paragliding!
There is a gentle mountain bike trail following the Morzine river valley and some beautiful walks in the village, forests, mountains and valleys. Thanks to the Multi Pass, the cable cars and chairlifts allow free & easy access into the mountains without strenuous ascents. Visit waterfalls, build river dams, have a picnic overlooking Mont Blanc, pick blueberries, discover quaint mountain restaurants or head to the mountain goat village - the opportunities for quality family time in the great (and free) outdoors are endless!
There is a lovely family vibe in the village during the school holidays, with local festivals and interactive children’s activities organised by the Morzine tourist office.
Granted, some of the more adventurous activities do have a minimum age restriction of around 8-12 years old - although this can vary for some activities according to the size/height of child and ability/confidence level. A good excuse for returning to Morzine when the kids are a little older for "round 2" of the mountain fun!
The list of things to do with small children goes on and on – making Morzine a fantastic summer holiday destination for all the family.

Mountain Biking
Mountain Biking
The Portes du Soleil area is the spiritual home of mountain biking in the Alps and is quite simply world famous for cross-country, freeride and downhill MTB (VTT in French). Its interlinked lift system allows bikers to cover lots of different trails across all levels of riding, from steep and technical downhill to cross-country routes through incredible scenery.
The region is near-endless and there are testing trails for everyone: fast forest trails, technical twisting single tracks, exposed high mountain routes, scenic valley traverses, epic climbs and long descents. Trails are graded from green (easy-“ish”!) through blue and red to black (extremely difficult), and there is a good choice of mountain restaurants to keep you well fuelled.
Overall, there are approximately 650km of marked VTT trails, 24 lifts, 50 downhill tracks and 10 bike parks / north shore areas. For keen cross-country bikers, the ‘Grand Tour des Portes du Soleil’ is an absolute must.
Major events are held in the area each summer, including the Mountain Bike World Cup, European championships and French national championships.
*** If you are lacking confidence on a bike off-road or have younger children wanting to learn MTB: ***
Because the terrain up the mountain is so challenging, we can recommend an enjoyable easy bike ride in the valley following the River Dranse back to Morzine and beyond. Details of this ride can also be found in the downloadable guidebook below “River Dranse path”.
It is also possible to book children’s small-group lessons to learn the basics of mountain biking, starting on flatter terrain before progressing to short downhill runs.
The official Morzine Mountain Biking Guide also has lots of useful information which you can download here.
